Red Herring is a 1999
J. Simpson Steel Pilothouse Cutter
piloted by
Jen Watkins and
Marko A. Rodriguez. In January of 2018, Red Herring will set a winter course from the Pacific Northwest's
Puget Sound to
southern Alaska along the Inside Passage.
When winter turns to spring in April 2018, currents and winds will take Red Herring to the south Pacific's
Marquesas Islands and ultimately,
in summer 2018, to the Pacific shores of South America. The megalithic structures of Pre-Colombia will be explored along the
Peruvian and
Chilean
coasts. The fall of 2018 will take Red Herring back out to open waters to meet up with the
Juan Fernandez Islands and then to the
Galapagos Islands. As fall turns to winter, the
Panama Canal will serve as a passage way to
Cartagena, Colombia, where Red Herring will
enjoy a long deserved rest on the hard in the spring of 2019.
Red Herring's journey will be documented on this interactive website built by her crew which provides a
geo-perspective on the ship's log and includes the course taken along with images and videos.
The crew of the Red Herring can be contacted at
